Gucci let me down the last season. When I saw their SS08 collection at GQstyle for the first time, I even refreshed the page twice to make sure that I had not been misdirected. I simply couldn’t believe the awful sight in front of me. Without any future regret I can say that the collection was a joke and is sub premium in terms of design.
Gratefully Gucci’s chief designer Frida Giannini came through this time with a collection worthy of the Gucci brand name 99 times more than the previous one. One can say that she has revolutionized herself which is perfectly in line with her Russian revolution inspired collection. It’s no mystery that Russians love bling so fur was off course a must, but unlike Alexander Mcqueen’s AW08 fur has been used more sparsely and in a more tasteful manner.
There is a little sprinkle of rock n roll as well with smoked eyes and ruff hair, but I do see some American Indian influences as well. I actually wasn’t that thrilled about this collection as first but when I had seen close ups and high resolution images I quickly warmed up, and before I knew my toes were quivering of joy. The level of care and detail is immaculate. Very decorative, very Rococo. Walking into a high fashion store these are the type of clothes I want to see.
I would give up my waist for one of those belts.
Astonishing attention to detail.
Very exquisite designs.
Once more, the belts!
Nice mixture of fabrics.
Many of the leather and suede jackets are unflattering.
Leather/latex pan? Never!
Grade: For me there is little not to like and if I had the money, I would buy many of the pieces. This is Gucci in its true sexy spirit. 4.5/5
