Dolce & Gabbana are as predictable as a race between a bunch of dogs. One season they present a rather despicable collection while the next one makes people wave their credit cards in the air. Their consistency is very low but when Dolce & Gabbana are good they are damn good like their SS09.

Inspired by metropolitan dandy lifestyle the Italian duo have created summer wear designated at people who want to look like they’ve got money. The type of guy who walks into a room and you can tell by the well groomed appearance and exquisite clothing that their wallet is thicker than a twin mattress. With exotic materials coloured in sexy midnight blue Dolce & Gabbana want to revive ostentatious Manhattan romance.

Propagating the use of a bow tie or a silk scarf resting around the neck slickness is guaranteed for anyone attempting to replicate either of these outfits. Perfect touches on an extravagant outfit designated to be worn while unconsciously eating a €160 for two at an overbooked fancy restaurant. This collection is undoubtedly dedicated to flamboyant stock brokers receiving bonuses the drop on lavish things like €1 540 sheets made out of the finest Egyptian cotton.

-Somewhat dreadful leather jackets.
-What’s up with the fetish surrounding laces?
-Naomi Campell. She’s soooooooooo yesterday.
-Alligator(snake?) shoes.

+The negative but very charming pompous image.
+All the nice little details like ties, pocket squares, scarves and different coloured collars.
+Theme and execution.
+Material and fabric mixtures.
+Blazers with Chinese prints.

Grade: 8.9/10 This is Dolce & Gabbana at their best. Absolutely splendid collection with zero over-expressive pieces. Ignoring the leather jackets they have hit it on the nail with a near perfect collection. Any Christian Bale fan or Tom Ford advocate should be quivering out of delight watching looking at these photos of Italian excellence.

I think Dolce & Gabanna is a little gaudy for my taste now. I used to love them and everything they did.

The sleek ties are soooo expected. But I like how they pay particular attention to the fit of the clothes.

Naomi was my favorite addition though.

I'm afraid I've never quite understood D&G. I could only score this 5 at best...for me Tom Ford does this look so much better.

posh-escapist: Dolce & Gabbana has always been a bit superflorious designed for those unafraid of standing in the spotlight. I kind of like that approach since most other designers are a bit withdrawn in their creations.

So you like the use of Naomi? They have used her quite a few times before in their men's show and sadly for them it's a bit old now. Hope this is the last time.

Steve: A 5? You find it to be that horrific? Have you taken a look at the other outfits? Yes, Tom Ford is a bit more tasteful but a whole lot more expensive. Have you seen what his suits run for at Harrods?

This is definitely their best collection in a really long time, much better than s/s 08 in particular. I actually don't think Naomi is "boring" and just because they've used her before doesn't mean it's bad to do it again. I couldn't imagine a better female model walking during the show.

I think a major "green point" you forgot to add would be the LACK OF LOGOS! Did you notice there were no "DG" belts or bags? Funny enough there were also few logos at D&G(I only noticed a few on the back pockets).

And yes,Tom Ford is definitely overrated + overpriced....I've discussed that on men.style.com and lots of users agree. If he keeps his prices that high he's probably going to close up in the next five years or so.

Looks like bow ties are coming back! The style of the bow ties is getting, just like neckties, slightly more narrow. Who would have thought... A skinny bow tie...

Thanks for posting this

Again I was not impressed with this collection nor the past two collections. I can just imagine the monstrosity of the women's collection, if the men's look like this. The styling was off for them, when normally it's quite good. The ad campaign i'm sure will make up for this presentation of a collection. With the models being sexy as usual for every Dolce & Gabbana show and with the addition of Naomi(who is in the YSL f/w 08-09 ad campaigns, for anyone who cares). I give it a two. However I am glad I am not a buyer sitting at this show, I would have had a severe migraine from seeing 5 looks presented 3 million times. Valentino got it right. It only took the House 8 to present it's SS09 collection! I suggest Stefano and Domenico start screwing some better stylists!
